Horace Turner was born in one of the houses on Stubton Road, Brandon in about 1891, the son of Joseph (a shepherd) and Kate. In 1901 the family had moved to Hough on the Hill, but by 1911 Horace was working for a coal merchant in Rippingale, where he later (Nov 1917) married Ada Mary Herriman.
In late 1915 he joined the Army but he suffered from tubercolosis and was invalided out in Aug 1917 as no longer physically fit for war service. Horace was moving back to Hough to be a farm labourer but by 1939 he and Ada were living in Laceby St, off Monks Road in Lincoln, where he worked as a crane driver. He died in Lincoln in 1967.
