Thomas Freeman
Thomas Freeman was born in Brant Broughton in 1895, the son of Stephen Freeman (1866-1950) and Emma (nee Kirk, 1870-1950). Stephen was a farm worker and they lived in Malt Kiln Lane.
In 1911 Thomas was an apprentice wheelwright/joiner in Walcot, near Billinghay
During the Great War he joined the Royal Engineers at Lincoln. After training in Chatham he was sent to France to join 1st Signal Company. He was last home on leave in Jan 1917.
He was killed by shell during the night of 10/11th July whilst laying telephone wires to the British artillery positions.
